Home Building a better world Consumerism And The Environment

The Earth’s ecology is under severe pressure because of high demand of consumer goods. In fact, there are some experts who believe that the rising demand for consumer goods is to be blamed for the ecological imbalance that the planet is facing today. And, the ecological imbalance is responsible for ecological disasters that are taking place practically in every corner of the world.

The rate of consumerism is increasing at a rate that can be only called alarming. Environmental experts believe by the year 2025, due to consumerism, people will have to bring about drastic changes to their lifestyle if they want to prevent the worst. By the year 2015, the greenhouse effect would have had such a great impact on the temperatures around the globe that impact will of increased temperature will be more severe than what people would imagine.

Although many people are already aware of the changes in the climate, majority of us do not realize that these changes are a precursor to far more damaging problem. Therefore, people are not conducive to changing their lifestyles or decreasing their ecological footprints. As a result, this is causing further ecological imbalance in the environment.

As consumerism increases, the Earth will be adversely affected and we will see further global warming and more destruction of the delicate ecology of the planet. While products and goods are required, we should not let them become the driving force in our lives. Consumer goods are required for an improved lifestyle, but we should keep buying them needlessly just to make ourselves feel better or to compete with friends and neighbors. Instead, people should opt for a simpler lifestyle so that the environment can be sustained and the damage to the ecology is minimized.
