The global warming will result in warming up of the Earth, which in turn makes some changes in the weather condition of the Earth. The common weather change is the hotter summers. The Earth has qualified climatic conditions, which make life possible on the Earth. However, due to global warming, there is a rise of a few degree Celsius in the temperature of the Earth. The current condition is favorable for the life of animals and plants. However, the rise in the temperature will certainly have an adverse effect on the conditions on Earth.
The oceans in the Polar Regions consist of many huge icebergs. Some of these icebergs are bigger than some of the largest mountains on the Earth. These icebergs are floating at seas and oceans. When the Earth warms, due to global warming, the oceans will also be warmed. The warming of oceans will also cause an increased temperature level of the sea. Since the seas and oceans are getting warmed, the icebergs will receive a hike in the temperature. Due to this, they start melt. Because of this melting at the Polar Regions, the quantity of the water at the sea and ocean will increase. This progress is considered to be accounting for about a quarter of the rise in the sea level recorded during the 20th century.
The global warming also consists of undesirable effects on the ice sheets, which cover the mountains like Mount Everest. When these ice sheets melt, the level of water flow in the adjacent rivers will also increase. The increased water flow will reach the sea, which in turn contribute more water to rise the level of seas further.
Many studies have been going on through out the world to study about impact of global warming on the melting of icebergs. According to those researchers, sea levels have been rising by one to two millimeters each year for the past hundred years. The recent predictions implying that the level of sea may rise by around fifty centimeters in the next hundred years. At a surface temperature of a sea of about 27 degree Celsius, the greenhouse effect was measured to be about 184 w / m2. However, as the surface temperature of the sea increased to 30 degree Celsius, the greenhouse effect quickly increased to 100 w / m2.
The increase of sea levels will threaten the low-lying coastal areas of many countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands. Besides increasing the low-lying coastal regions, the increase in the levels of the seas also has severe effects on many important fisheries. More over, the rise in the level of seas will damage the coastal ecosystems. Many estuaries will be predominately at danger from flooding as sea levels increase. Still lots of researchers need to be done to prevent the Earth from the adverse effects will arise due to the increased rise of sea level. As a preventive measure, some improvements need to be made to dikes and sea walls in some countries. The homes and businesses should be relocated from low-lying areas to safer areas.
