Electronic Recycling

Technology is advancing at a rapid rate around us. If we were to look at even the last decade of the world’s development, we would find numerous new products that were introduced and countless advances in products that already existed. This rapid growth and change in technology has resulted in creating many outdated and obsolete products, which find no use in the present. The products we use today will also face this inevitable fate. So, what happens to all of these old and useless products? Well, they become E-waste.

E-waste is what results when electronic items are not disposed of properly. Old televisions, computers, phones, etc are dumped and result in pollution of the environment. The consequences of being irresponsible with old electronics are far more serious than what meets the eyes. Apart from causing a lot of damage to the surroundings, this waste can affect our health.

Electronic items are made of dangerous substances. For example, many LCD screens in televisions contain mercury in their panels. Cathode rays in the monitors of computers and some televisions contain lead. Other than these, nickel, cadmium and lithium are also found in electronic items. These substances can lead to a number of health hazards, and cause great damage to the nervous system, lungs, stomach and kidneys. If children are exposed to such matter for a prolonged period of time, then it could also lead to death!

With such serious issues caused by e-waste, there has to be a better way of its disposal. That way is recycling. Recycling of electronic items is one of the best solutions to the problem inflicting almost everyone in the world.

Many companies these days deal in the recycling of electronic items. The components of old electronic goods are removed and used in new products. This helps reduce the wastefulness of available resources. Electronic items contain precious metals such as gold and palladium, which are used in their chips, circuits, wires and plugs. These metals are not readily available. So, this is an added incentive as it is highly beneficial for companies to recycle. Also, some companies sell recycled electronic goods at reduced prices. These goods are reliable and efficient. So, this gives people with a lower budget a chance to own products of their choice. It is our responsibility to do what we can to protect our environment. It is also our instinct to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
