Spain’s mountain ranges will be the worst hit with snow to fall this evening and more of the white stiff set to hit the northern peninsula from Monday, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) said. Ahmet predicts intense rains and showers in the Cantabrian area, strong winds on the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and maritime storm on the coasts of Galicia and Cantabria. Snow and the persistent rainfall will make for icy conditions, Spanish forecasters have warned.

According to the meteorological service, there will be “a significant rise in the level” of snow from Friday onwards.

Rubén del Campo, spokesman for Aemet, explains on the YouTube channel of the State Meteorological Agency that “this intense episode will take over the next few days from north to south, which guarantees the arrival of cold air to our country in all layers of the stratosphere.”

Up to 20cm of snow has already fallen through the peninsula and the western Mediterranean region.

Aemet stressed this Sunday “a worsening of the general situation” is expected, with violent winds set to dominate tourist hot-spot the Canary Islands.

Alternative charts by NETWEATHER also shows the increased risk of snowfall pick up on Saturday and Sunday.

The weather graphs appears to show the northwest of England, north of England and parts of Scotland all more likely to see some snow hit over the weekend.

While Wales, West Midlands and even the south-west of England should be prepared for snow showers Saturday night into Sunday morning.

BBC Weather has warned of snow over the weekend as a low-pressure system clashes with bitterly-cold air in the coming days.

The forecast reads: “A low-pressure system is then expected to cross the UK from northwest to southeast on Saturday and into Sunday.

“As the warm front moves in over the colder air Saturday morning, there is the potential for some early morning snow in the hills of Northwest Britain, before any snow turns back to rain by midday.

“A wet and cool weekend in store, but with overnight lows milder than those expected Friday night.”

BBC Weather also tweeted a graphic of bone-chilling northern cold air continuing to grip the country throughout the rest of the week.

They tweeted: “The rest of the week will be cold and largely unsettled due to a strong jet stream just to the south of the UK, leaving us in a chilly air mass and a chance of some snow on high ground.”

Meanwhile, weather warnings are in place in the east of England as heavy rain barrels towards the country, threatening to bring “disruption from flooding”.
