Silver Spring Township was awarded almost $100,000 by the Harrisburg Area Transportation Study.
The township was awarded $96,000 for the Carlisle Pike Alternative Transportation Corridor Study.
The study will evaluate the segment of US Route 11, the Carlisle Pike, between Pennsylvania Route 114 east to the Silver Spring Township line.
The purpose of the proposed study is to evaluate the corridor in its entirety and to provide solutions that will create multiuse pedestrian and bike pathways, install ADA compliant crosswalks at all intersections, and through a partnership with Pennsy Supply, connect the Paul Walker Memorial Park to the Vincent DiFilippo Nature Preserve and the Hidden Creek Park.

Officials hope that this will lead to future connections to alternative transportation facilities in neighboring municipalities.
The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study has approved more than $7 million in funding for 13 improvement projects in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties including the Carlisle Pike Alternative Transportation Corridor Study. The grants are from its 2022 Regional Transportation Plan Implementation Grant Program.
The long-range Regional Transportation Plan sets a framework and priorities for the expenditure of federal transportation funds over a 25-year period.
The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties and their 103 municipalities. It works with federal, state and local agencies and officials to meet the transportation needs of an area covering nearly 1,700 square miles.
