Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District recently announced an education collaboration between the districts.
The purpose is to deliver educational programs to Geauga County schools and youth focusing on the 3R’s –Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, according to a news release.
Katie Nainiger, Geauga SWCD’s conservation education coordinator for the past 17 years, will be adding Geauga-Trumbull SWMD programs to the diversity of educational offerings already available to through Geauga SWCD to Geauga County residents.
Both agencies are focused and passionate on preserving our natural resources for future generations, the release stated.
Geauga SWCD’s mission is to conserve, protect, and enhance the soil and water resources of Geauga County by providing leadership, education, and assistance, whereas, the Geauga-Trumbull SWMD is responsible for waste reduction, recycling, and reducing reliance on landfills.
Funding for the Geauga-Trumbull SWMD is received through a contract fee with landfills and transfer stations that agree to accept solid waste from Geauga and Trumbull counties. These fees are then used to provide programs and services to residents.
The partnership kicked off with eight programs at Bainbridge Christian preschool where 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds discovered the world of how nature recycles with a story about ”Pumpkin Jack” as well as getting their very own “Pumpkin Jack” to take home with them to see first-hand just how nature does it, according to the release.
This is just one of the many programs offered through Geauga-Trumbull SWMD. Anyone who would like to schedule a program can contact the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District at 440-834-1122, or visit www.startrecycling.com for more information.
