The growth potential for the fuel retailing industry in Africa was on show in Cape Town earlier this month.

After a 3 ½ year break, ReFuelForum Africa made a welcome return to Cape Town on November 1-2. 40 fuel retail companies spanning the entire Continent joined forces with suppliers from across the world for the event’s unique mix of content, networking and speed meetings.
With Mohamed Carrim, Cluster Managing Director of Puma Energy at the helm, the conference delivered a first-rate knowledge dividend. The future of retail, alternative energies, digital transformation and modular automation systems were all explored by the speaker line-up.
Representatives from retailers such as TotalEnergies, OLA Energy, ZEN Petroleum and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) shared knowledge and ideas about the African fueling industry.
“It was an opportunity to learn how our peers in Africa are responding to the much talked about Energy Transition,” said Prince Awuley, Retail Director at ZEN Petroleum, a Ghanaian-owned fuel retailer.
Boston Consulting Group explored the strategies that fuel retailers will need to implement to transform their business and thrive in the era for service stations.
“There is a great potential in Africa when it comes to fueling, as most of the African countries currently have huge development plans, and fueling plays a major part in these plans. There are big opportunities for development in the African fueling sector, in line with the current global trends,” said Allen Youssef, Regional Marketing Manager, MEA at Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Headline Partner for ReFuelForum Africa.
The other partners for this year’s event were PDI, Fuel Trans, First African Signs and Capillary Technologies.
