It’s hard to believe we’re already three weeks into the month of July. This is the hottest time of the year and while it doesn’t get absurdly hot in New York State, we have seen our fair share of humid weather since June.
July has not seen very much in the way of rain, in fact, much of the state had been going through a mild to moderate drought until Monday morning, when we saw much needed rain cut through the state.
While Tuesday morning has been all sunshine for Western, Central and upstate New York, the afternoon and early evening might be a different story.
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a threat of severe thunderstorms for Tuesday afternoon.
Central and upstate New York has a better chance to see severe weather, versus Western New York, which will likely not see severe thunderstorms, however, areas north of the City of Buffalo will see a heightened risk.
These severe thunderstorms could pop up out of nowhere, so be alert if you’re going to be outside or driving, as a downpour could happen at a moment’s notice.
There will be dangerous heat indexes across New York State on Wednesday, which will see temperatures in the low-to-mid 90’s. Drink plenty of water and make sure any pets don’t spend more than a few minutes outside at a time.
We’re due for more rain and intense heat, after the relatively easy start to the month of July across New York State.
