COASTAL WATCH
In November, Coastal Watch will launch a new initiative where volunteers will assist with the weekly collection of oyster shells from local restaurants. Restaurants will fill five-gallon sealed buckets with shucked oyster shells and leave them in a designated. Volunteers will pick up the buckets and take them to a staging area at the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s headquarters on Sanibel-Captiva Road. The recycled shell will be used as a foundation for oyster reef construction in restoration areas in Tarpon Bay and the Pine Island Sound. To volunteer, contact coastalwatch@sccf.org.
