
The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.
Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual “spills” do occur among the 17,000-plus wells in the county.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 15 a historical tank battery spill near Weld County Road 57 and 44, about 12 miles southeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned tank battery. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, total petroleum hydrocarbons, fluorine, 1-methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 15 a recent tank battery spill near Weld 60 1/2 and 55 1/2, about 3 miles southeast of Gill. Approximately 56 barrels of produced water spilled. Automation indicated a release of produced water. A site investigation may follow once the release is confirmed. Remedial efforts will begin if necessary.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 15 a historical flowline spill near Weld 59 and 46, about 8 miles southeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release along the decommissioned flowline. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for naphthalene, benzo(a)anthracene and 1-methylnaphthalene.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 14 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 59 and 14, about 2 miles southeast of Keenesburg. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned tank battery. Two soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for benzene, ethylbenzene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Feb. 11 a recent tank battery spill near Weld 21 and 6, about 7 miles southwest of Fort Lupton. Approximately 1 barrel of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Site assessment is ongoing.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 8 a historical well spill near Weld 48 and 43, about 4 miles southeast of Evans. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample exceeded COGCC protection of groundwater standards for benzene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene. One groundwater sample exceeded COGCC standards for benzene.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Feb. 6 a historical well spill near 65th Avenue and 54th Street Road in Evans. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Three soil samples exceeded COGCC protection of groundwater standards for 1,3,5-triemthylbenzene and 1-methylnaphthalene.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Feb. 3 a historical well spill near Weld 36 and 23 in Milliken. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was at the wellhead excavation during plugging and abandonment at the wellhead. The volume of the release is unknown and assessment is ongoing.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Feb. 3 a historical well spill near Weld 56 and 17 in Greeley. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found at the wellhead excavation during plugging and abandonment. The volume of the release is unknown and assessment is ongoing.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Jan. 11 a historical flowline spill near Colo. 52 and Weld 3 in Erie. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during the removal of the flowline associated with two wellheads.
